Celine Ennis

Personal Statement...

My current medium is bees wax. Colored pigment is added to bees wax and is applied to a heated surface using a paint brush and a hot gun. The medium allows me to create richly textural pieces or smooth and glossy surfaces. I also carve into it depositing color in the carved areas, burnish images onto the surface and mix collage materials into it.
I am drawn to the encaustic process because it allows me to create layers of color and texture. I employ a variety of mark making tools, rice papers and image transfers in my creations. The end result is a painting that engages the viewer and challenges them to see beneath the multiple layers.
