“I stepped to the viewfinder side of the camera following a long career in retail and fashion. And so, my images reflect the inner workings of a reflective heart and lived life. Some viewers describe the work as spiritual, melancholy, or solitary. I simply hope it is honest.
Like the painters and potters I grew up around, I use a highly physical creative process. Many abstract works are created through deliberate camera movement in low light and settings in flux, allowing images that resemble paintings to emerge. Yet when weather, water, or place feel imperfectly right — often during storms — I am drawn to figurative possibilities.”
All works are made from a single digital exposure and, while edited, I never use AI. Distortions come only from camera movement, fabric, fog, or reflections in water, glass, or metal. Self-taught in both business and photography, I approach the camera instinctively, with little patience for heavy post-production. For better or worse, the result is entirely my own.
I live in the magnificent Hudson River Valley, whose towns and landscapes have inspired generations of artists. The valley is always in motion, its impermanence a daily reminder to get out of bed, grab the camera, and shoot." –Kate Buggeln
